This notice is to advise that, as part of the O-Train Confederation Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project, the work to further reinforce the tunnel under Rideau Street will be taking place overnight.
WHAT: Starting as early as Friday, August 19, 2016, workers will be on site overnight to begin grouting – injecting concrete into holes in the ground – to mitigate any loose or potentially unstable ground as tunnelling and cavern station work continues.
WHERE: Rideau Street, near Sussex Drive.
WHEN: Friday, August 19, 2016, until the end of October. Work will occur overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
WHY: When the City announced on July 28, 2016, that tunneling would resume under Rideau Street following the infrastructure failure, it was announced that additional measures would be taken to reinforce the tunnel, including pipe roofing, lattice girders and face bolts. It was also announced that systematic drainage and grouting (injection of concrete to reinforce the area) would occur to mitigate any loose or potentially unstable ground.
RESIDENTIAL & BUSINESS IMPACTS
- Lane closures will be required for this work. Although Rideau Street is closed to regular traffic, this work must be done in the overnight hours in order to avoid major disruptions to Rideau Street and local businesses.
- Noise levels will be considerably higher than typical construction levels. Concrete will have to be prepared on site. Construction equipment on site will include hydraulic drills, air compressor, generator and high pressure jet pump.
