Notice: Southbound traffic not permitted on Bank Street for Queen Street renewal work

Notice - Avis

This notice is to advise that, as part of the O-Train Confederation Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project, Bank Street will be reduced to one lane going north only between Wellington and Albert streets in order to undertake construction work at the intersection of Queen and Bank streets this summer.

WHAT: The southbound lane on Bank Street between Albert and Wellington streets will be closed for the summer so crews can work at the Queen/Bank street intersection as part of the Queen Street Renewal project. One northbound lane will remain open.

WHEN: June 4 to early September 2016

WHY: Queen Street between Bay and O’Connor/Metcalfe streets will be undergoing a complete streetscaping to improve pedestrian, cycling and vehicle infrastructure to better meet the needs of light rail along the Queen Street corridor. Lane reductions on Bank Street are required to allow for the complete reconstruction of the Queen St./Bank St. intersection, including laying down concrete surfaces and foundation slabs, and installing infrastructure for new traffic signals and streetlights.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS

  • Detour signage will be in place throughout the construction period that will direct all southbound traffic around Bank Street using Albert, O’Connor, Wellington and/or Lyon streets. Traffic will still be able to travel northbound on Bank Street.

PEDESTRIAN & CYCLIST IMPACTS

  • Pedestrians will be directed to use an alternate crosswalk at Bank and Queen Street.
