A busy week ahead at both the underground and above-ground portions of the alignments. At Parliament Station, for example, final patching for the north platform has finished with the south platform beginning this week. At the East Portal, work on the starter walls for the cut and cover tunnel section continues. At Tunney’s Pasture a concourse level pour is planned for later this month while over at Bayview Station, the landscaping phase of construction is set to begin.
Tunney’s Pasture Station
Crews are completing the concourse pour and the Holland extension. Work on the mechanical and electrical rough-ins continue. The masonry work on the outside of the concourse wall is also ongoing.
Landscaping work is scheduled for the next several weeks. Crews are applying intumescent paint to station columns and completing the mechanical and electrical infrastructure at the concourse level. Platform roofing work is set to be completed soon.
At the west-upper concourse, crews are completing the forming and pouring of the curbs. In the east upper concourse, the steel decking is scheduled for installation, as well as the forming and pouring of curbs. At the lower concourse, crews are working on installing electrical equipment, mechanical components, fire protection, and preparing to install one of the station elevators.
Lyon Station cavern
Main work inside the station is on hold until Kontinuum concludes in the fall. Meanwhile behind the scenes, installation of washroom fixtures and work on the switch gear room continues.
Lyon Station west entrance
Main work inside the station is on hold until Kontinuum concludes in the fall. The west TVS progresses with formwork and wall pours; and temporary landscaping around the building including street paving and site clean-up occurs.
Lyon Station east entrance
Main work inside the station is on hold until Kontinuum concludes in the fall. The east TVS progresses with formwork, wall pours and rebar.
Parliament Station cavern
At the concourse, steel continues to be installed for the elevator shafts and crews are about to begin masonry on the curbs. At the platform level, forms for the stair walls begin to be constructed and work on the elevators advances.
Parliament Station west entrance
This week, crew continue to strip the falsework for the roof slab and extend waterproofing for the north wall. Waterproofing occurs for the south wall as well, along with shotcrete.
Parliament Station east entrance
Meanwhile at the east entrance, the east and west walls progress with forming and pouring alongside falsework and rebar installation for the suspended slab. Rebar installation continues at the adit to prepare for the upcoming forming and pouring.
Rideau Station cavern
Ongoing activities include rebar and concrete pours in a westward direction for the tunnel arch. At the concourse, formwork is complete for the second slab and rebar installation has begun.
Rideau Station west entrance
Crews continue to prepare for the arrival and assembly of tunnel arch formwork occurring later this week. Waterproofing and rebar installation occurs as well for the arch and headwall.
Rideau Station east entrance
The installation of escalators finishes this week, structural steel is installed for the head house and the final TPSS has been delivered. In addition, the TVS continues to take shape with waterproofing the adit slab and stripping formwork off the TVS shafts.
Crews continue to advance work on starter walls for the cut and cover tunnel section, work includes: rebar, forming, pouring and waterproofing. Duct bank work progresses in a westward direction with conduit installation.
At the concourse level, progress on the duct, plumbing, and fire protection systems is ongoing. Crews are also finalizing the roof to ensure water-tight condition. The installation of ballast and track continues, and the excavation for the curved plaza ramp has commenced.
Crews have mobilized to do the platform decking. They’re also completing the electrical, HVAC, and plumbing work in the ancillary building and the inside is now 80% complete. On the concourse and platform, crews will be patching the retaining wall this week. Painting of the elevator columns has also been completed.
Pouring of the topping slabs is scheduled to continue. The work on the north and south ceilings and the north roof parapets is ongoing. The windscreen bases and posts continue to progress. Crews are also at work installing composite metal panels on one of the stairways.
The skylight framing is underway this week. Activities centering on the mechanical and electrical rough-ins are also continuing. Pulling wires, equipment installs and lighting proceeds towards completion. Crews are also completing the porcelain panels and the windscreen posts.
Scheduled work includes the mechanical and electrical work in the plenum area of the station. The tunnel ventilation shaft is being completed, including installation of the jet fans. Concrete pours at the platform are ongoing.
Activities include sandblasting on the platform and installation of electrical fixtures and finishes. Crews also work to install the remaining posts at stairs, railing at platform stairs, and railing on top of the mechanical room.
The scheduled work this week focuses on final finishes such as glass around the stairs, pedestrian bridge and walls; rail posts; and soffits on one of the stairways. Crews complete electrical components as well, including running wires for the switch heaters.
Guideway and Trackwork
East-bound tamping is underway between Bayview Overpass and Pimisi Station. In Segment 3 (uOttawa-Hurdman), the rail anchors and expansion joints continue to be assembled and all of the concrete is now in place. Tie and bottom ballast has been completed at uOttawa Station. In the downtown segment of the alignment, crews are continuing to install plinths in the u-trench and have started assembling diamond crossover at Parliament Station. Crews will torque the rail anchors assembled on the Rideau River bridge.
Upcoming Construction Activities
In the coming weeks, the following construction activities are scheduled to occur:
- Removal of cement blocks from the Parliament West Entrance site.
- Tower Crane Removal from Rideau with a full road closure of Rideau Street from Sussex to Dalhousie.
- Form carrier at the West Portal to be transferred to East Portal.
- Construction at Parliament Station including hydrovaccing work.
- Cranes, concrete trucks, and steel erection along western section of the guideway.
- Ongoing East Portal works including rebar and concrete work.
- Station and guideway construction around the University of Ottawa.
- Ongoing overnight work at the Rideau Station west and east entrances
- Systems installation along the guideway, including Overhead Catenary System (OCS) poles and wires.
- Pulling rail, tamping and OCS installations – Hurdman to Lees.
