Queen Street Water Main
The Queen Street Water Main Replacement Project will commence the week of August 5, 2013. Work will begin at the intersection of Queen Street and Kent Street, with the remainder of the work between Bronson Avenue and Elgin Street completed by December 2013.
During construction, portions of Queen Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction and parking will not be available in the affected portions of the street. Commuters are reminded to exercise caution and drive at reduced speed through construction zones. Pedestrian access and access to buildings will be maintained.
Transit service will also be maintained throughout construction.
Construction has been planned with a view to minimize disruption for residents and businesses. The City has designed a temporary water supply system to meet the domestic water supply needs along Queen Street and will continue to work with property owners and managers to address any issues related to water supply, fire services, building access and potential construction disruptions.
The Queen Street Water Main Replacement Project will ensure the continued reliability and quality of the downtown water supply. The existing water main was installed in 1874, making it one of the oldest in the City.
