Tunnel - West Portal
Preparatory work has begun for the excavation of the western tunnel entrance of Ottawaʼs new Confederation Line light rail transit project. This construction is the first step in preparation for tunnelling from this location east under Queen Street.
Starting the week of July 8, this work will involve installing a temporary wall to support the ground around the future tunnel entrance by driving piles – long, vertical steel beams – and/or concrete foundations (“caissons”) into the ground. This will cause intermittent and repetitive banging noises. Work will take place weekdays before 6 p.m. and is expected to take up to one month. Construction will be carried out in accordance with the Cityʼs Noise By-law and is not expected to interfere with residentsʼ enjoyment of Bluesfest.
