Construction Update

At Tremblay Station, which will serve as a vital connection to Ottawa’s VIA Rail Station, crews complete structural steel. At Parliament Station west entrance, the head house takes shape and concrete work continues for the station’s entrance.

West Stations

Tunney’s Pasture Station: Crews continue building the station foundation including installation of rebar for station footings and initial caisson work.

Bayview Station: Ground improvement activities continue during the day and overnight as part of work in the area. Crews install rebar and formwork for the station walls. Duct bank and grade beam installations are ongoing.

Pimisi Station: Construction of the station walls and lower concourse level continues; activities include waterproofing and concrete work.

Central Stations

West Portal: Excavation for the ramp concludes and preparation for guideway work continues.

Lyon Station cavern: Work continues at the concourse level; activities include shoring, rebar and formwork installation. Shotcrete final lining work continues in the east transition. Arch final lining pours are ongoing.

Lyon Station west entrance: Crews install rebar, formwork and pour the escalator pit and station walls.

Lyon Station east entrance: Station wall and column work is ongoing; crews install rebar and pour concrete. Crews mobilize to begin structural steel installation later this week. At the east vent shaft, rock removals are ongoing in preparation for waterproofing and concrete work.

Parliament Station cavern: The station continues to take shape; activities include rebar installation and concrete pours for the station slab and L-walls. Mechanical and electrical work continues and crews waterproof the station arch.

Parliament Station west entrance: Crews install rebar and pour concrete for the station slab, stairs and escalator walls. Structural steel installation is finalized. At the east vent shaft, crews continue hoe ramming and rock removal during the weekend.

Traffic restrictions on Queen and O’Connor streets remain in effect.

Rideau Station cavern: Crews waterproof the station invert and arch in preparation for concrete work. The station continues to take shape with rebar installation and arch concrete pours. Mechanical and electrical work is ongoing.

Rideau Station west entrance: Crews install rebar and falsework in anticipation of pouring the roof slab.

Rideau Station east entrance: Crews finalize formwork in anticipation of significant concrete pours by the end of the week.

Rideau Street will close nightly to all vehicular traffic to permit works to advance.

uOttawa Station: Construction of the platform slab continues; activities include rebar installation and concrete pours. Electrical work is ongoing.

East Portal: Excavation of the ramp continues and crews install whaler beams as part of reinforcement work.

East Stations

Lees Station: Work on the raft slab continues; activities include rebar and formwork installations. Electrical installations are also ongoing.

Hurdman Station: Crews begin structural steel and continue masonry installation. Construction of the bus operator’s building is ongoing.

Tremblay Station: Crews continue installing formwork in preparation for concrete pours. Structural steel installation is finalized and work on the roof begins.

St-Laurent Station: The station continues to take shape; crews prepare to install escalators, elevators and structural steel. Work on the hydro room is ongoing.

Cyrville Station: Crews work on the station roof, structural framing and elevators.

Blair Station: Work on the station roof is being finalized. Crews install exterior wall panels and the soffit. At the bus operator’s building, electrical installations continue. Removals are being completed as part of work on the permanent bus loop.

Tunnel Excavation and Support

Excavation of the running tunnel continues and crews install reinforcements.

Guideway

Tunney’s Pasture Station to West Portal: Construction of the guideway continues; crews backfill and finalize the installation of Overhead Catenary System foundations during the day and overnight. From Merton Street to West Portal, crews excavate, backfill and install ballast. Trackwork is ongoing in sections and includes distressing rail.

Mann Avenue Bridge to west of Tremblay Station: Guideway work occurs in sections; crews complete sewer work and install duct banks, fencing and ballast. Trackwork is ongoing from Rideau River Transitway Bridge to Tremblay Station.

Other Activities

Bayview Bridge: Reconstruction of the bridge is ongoing; crews pour the concrete overlay. The bridge is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

Mann Avenue Bridge: Bridge reconstruction progresses with crews working during the day and overnight. Bridge work will continue until spring 2017.

Upcoming Construction Activities

In the coming weeks, the following construction activities are scheduled to occur:

  • Tunney’s Pasture Station work requiring right turn lane restriction.
  • Installation of traction power sub station on the guideway near Tunney’s Pasture Station and elsewhere along the alignment.
  • Lyon Station HVAC and west vent shaft work resumes.
  • Work begins at the Rideau Station HVAC shaft; traffic pattern adjustments are required. [link to notice]
  • uOttawa Station work requiring intermittent closures of the pedestrian tunnel.
  • Structural steel installation at uOttawa Station.
  • Mann Avenue Bridge work and overnight lane closures.
  • Vehicle testing and Overhead Catenary System will be energized in phases along the guideway between Belfast Yard and Blair Station.
