Construction Update

At uOttawa Station, work on the station walls has progressed and access to the pedestrian tunnel from campus to Colonel By Drive has been reopened to the public in anticipation of the fall semester. Construction of uOttawa Station and East Portal is ongoing and we remind pedestrians not to trespass onto construction sites.

West Stations

Tunney’s Pasture Station: Crews continue station demolition and removal of existing structures.

Bayview Station: Crews continue ground improvement work as part of construction of the auxiliary building. Foundation work and duct bank installations are ongoing.

Pimisi Station: Station foundation work continues; activities include formwork installation and concrete pours for station footings. Crews mobilize to begin steel reinforcement work.

Central Stations

West Portal: Excavation of the West Portal ramp is ongoing.

Lyon Station cavern: Station concourse work is ongoing with rebar installation and concrete pours. Crews continue station arch final lining pours.

Lyon Station west entrance: Crews backfill, install rebar and pour concrete for the slab and elevator shaft.

Lyon Station east entrance: Work on the station elevator shaft continues; crews install rebar and pour concrete. Drilling continues at the east vent shaft and crews mobilize to begin rock excavation.

Parliament Station cavern: Crews work on beams, install rebar and pour concrete for the L-walls and slab. Mechanical and electrical installations are ongoing.

Parliament Station west entrance: Crews pour the station’s roof slab and continue excavation at street level. At the parking level, crews install formwork and pour concrete columns.

Parliament Station east entrance: Structural steel installation and concrete pours occur. Crews mobilize to begin line drilling, in preparation for blasting as early as September.

Traffic restrictions on Queen and O’Connor streets remain in effect.
Rideau Station cavern: Crews waterproof the invert and install rebar for the station walls.

Rideau Station west entrance: Crews install rebar and formwork in preparation for concrete pours in coming weeks. Crews begin jet grouting.


Rideau Station east entrance: Waterproofing and rebar installation continue as part of work on the station walls.

East Portal: Crews continue piling and mobilize to begin excavation of the ramp in preparation for future guideway work.

Traffic restrictions on Rideau Street remain in effect.

uOttawa Station: Crews continue installing rebar and pouring concrete for station walls. Construction of the pedestrian tunnel continues.

East Stations

Lees Station: Crews pour concrete duct banks and begin subgrade work.

Tremblay Station: Crews work on the parapets and canopy footings. Installation of structural steel and the metal roof deck is ongoing.

St-Laurent Station: Crews install masonry in the station and electrical room. Rebar installation and concrete pours occur for the station elevators. Grading and trackwork are ongoing.

Cyrville Station: The station continues taking shape as crews install formwork on the platform level and pour concrete for the stairs. Work on the station roof and parapets is ongoing.

Blair Station: Crews install electrical works and exterior wall panels. Work on the station roof is ongoing.

Hurdman Station: At the station, crews continue work on the concourse floor slab and begin construction of the approach slab. At the bus operators’ building, crews continue electrical work and finalize structural steel installation. At the bus loop, crews install formwork in preparation for pouring the platform.

Tunnel Excavation and Support

Excavation and installation of reinforcements are ongoing in the running tunnel west of Rideau Station.


Tunney’s Pasture Station to West Portal: Crews continue grading, removals and granular installation in preparation for future trackwork

Mann Avenue Bridge to west of Lees Station: Crews mobilize to begin preliminary track work activities including welding.

Rideau River Transitway Bridge to Blair Station: Trackwork activities and granular installation are ongoing in sections west of Tremblay Station. Crews install systems and cabling, and continue distressing, tamping and welding from just east of Tremblay Station to Blair Station in anticipation of vehicle testing as early as September.

Other Activities

CPR Bridge near Bayview Station: Crews continue to reconstruct the bridge; work on the pier caps and ground improvement activities are ongoing.

Booth Street: Crews complete final works in anticipation of the reopening of Booth Street as early as September.

Mann Avenue Bridge: Crews mobilize to begin installing caissons as part of bridge reconstruction work.

Upcoming Construction Activities

In the coming weeks, the following construction activities are scheduled to occur:

  • Blasting at Parliament Station east entrance.
  • Demolition of the Mann Avenue Bridge.
  • Structural steel installation at Hurdman Station.
  • Watermain work near St-Laurent Station, along the guideway.
  • Vehicle testing along the guideway between Belfast Yard and Tremblay Station.
  • Traction power sub station installations along the alignment.
