Construction Update
This week, crews begin concrete cable bank work in the west running tunnel, which will be followed by trackwork activities in the next months. Construction also progresses at the integrated entrances, including the Lyon Station east entrance, where crews mobilize to install structural steel by crane.
West Stations
Tunney’s Pasture Station: The station continues to take shape with crews installing rebar and formwork for the stairs, followed by concrete pours in cycles, and preparations begin to install grade beams for station footings.
Bayview Station: Construction progresses at the station and includes the next phase of foundation grade beam installation, waterproofing activities for the ancillary building and underground mechanical and electrical work.
Pimisi Station: Crews ramp up work at the east end of the station under Booth Street bridge with concrete pours for the elevator and station walls. Mechanical and electrical work and concrete pours for the track slab also occur this week.
Lyon Station cavern: The station continues to progress with ongoing masonry and block wall construction on the concourse level as part of architectural work, in addition to the installation of duct banks. Final shotcrete lining advances in the west transition.
Lyon Station west entrance: The integrated entrance continues to take shape with ongoing concrete work including the installation of rebar on the upper escalator and stairs area, and forming of walls over the adit. At the east vent shaft, wire saw cutting and the next phase of concrete removals occur.
Lyon Station east entrance: Structural steel installation begins by crane at the entrance and concrete work, which includes the lower stairs and escalator slab areas, continues to progress. Crews mobilize to begin a breakthrough of the HVAC to the tunnel below by end of the week.
Parliament Station cavern: Crews continue installing electrical conduits, pouring the final arch concrete lining, pouring the cavern deck and placing rebar as part of concrete work for the elevator walls.
Parliament Station east entrance: Integrated entrance construction is ongoing and includes rock removal in anticipation of a breakthrough to the tunnel. At the east vent shaft, crews remove shotcrete.
Rideau Station cavern: Crews continue pouring concrete for walls and the arch in addition to installing bulkheads.
Rideau Station west entrance: This week, construction continues 24/7 with the removal of shoring and the relocation of struts, as well as waterproofing of station walls. At the HVAC shaft, crews complete final rock removals and demobilize to begin waterproofing the shaft.
Rideau Station east entrance: Concrete work is ongoing at the entrance as well as waterproofing and the installation of rebar in the mechanical rooms. Crews also form elevator shaft walls and remove whaler beams in sections.
Rideau Street is now open to bus traffic and taxis.
uOttawa Station: The station continues to take shape with ongoing concrete work for the foundation, framing for porcelain panels, the installation of masonry in the communications room, and backfilling and excavation at the south side of the station.
East Portal: Crews continue constructing the ramp; activities include installing tiebacks, waterproofing in sections, as well as rebar and formwork on walls and slabs, followed by concrete pours at the end of the week.
East Stations
Lees Station: Station construction advances with the installation of rebar and formwork for the foundation, and underground duct banks for the ancillary building.
Hurdman Station: Crews continue working on the roof of the stations’ ancillary buildings, pouring concrete for the stairs, mechanical and electrical rough-ins and installing structural steel. Interior finishing work is ongoing on the bus operators’ building.
Tremblay Station: The station continues to take shape with roofing construction, work on the elevators, painting and the installation of cable trays in the secondary rooms.
St-Laurent Station: Construction progresses at the station and includes mechanical and electrical work, concrete curb and mezzanine pours and the installation of conduits and door frames.
Cyrville Station: Crews begin working on the windscreen walls, including glazing activities. Work on the station soffit and elevators progresses and porcelain panel installation continues for the auxiliary building.
Blair Station: Construction is ongoing at the station and includes installation of composite panels, steel work for the station’s skylight, as well as work on the soffit and station stairs. The bus operators’ building’s roof continues to take shape.
Tunnel Excavation and Support
Excavation of the bench is ongoing in the last section of running tunnel west of Rideau Station. Crews also install rebar and waterproof the tunnel arch and pour starter walls east of Parliament Station.
Guideway
Crews continue working along the guideway, weather permitting. This includes assembling crossover tracks east of Tunney’s Pasture Station, removing parapets along Bayview Bridge, and drilling dowels and starting cable bank concrete work in the west running tunnel from the West Portal moving west to Lyon Station. Train testing also occurs in phases between Cyrville and Blair stations.

- Next phase of foundation work at Tunney’s Pasture Station requiring sidewalk realignment.
- Hoe ramming as part of work on the western section of the guideway.

- Ongoing overnight work at the Rideau Station west and east entrances, and at the East Portal.

- Demolition of the abutments at the Mann Avenue bridge requiring full closures and overnight bracket installations requiring lane restrictions.
- Ongoing Mann Avenue bridge reconstruction work through end of 2017.

- Installation of the next phase of structural steel at Tremblay Station.

At uOttawa Station, the station begins to take shape with crews completing a large concrete pour for the suspended slab. At the integrated entrances, to date crews have poured more than fifty percent of the concrete required.
West Stations
Tunney’s Pasture Station: Construction of the station foundation is ongoing; crews continue installing rebar for station footings and begin caisson work.
Bayview Station: Caisson installation is finalized as part of initial work on the ancillary building. Duct bank installation, sewer work and ground improvement activities are ongoing. The next phase of station construction begins as crews mobilize to install rebar and formwork.
Pimisi Station: Crews backfill, install duct banks and continue mechanical and electrical work. Construction of the station’s lower concourse level is ongoing; crews waterproof and continue concrete work for station walls.
Central Stations
West Portal: Crews continue excavation of the ramp and install reinforcements.
Lyon Station cavern: Construction progresses at the station concourse level; crews install rebar, formwork and pour the concrete deck. Arch final lining pours and shotcrete final lining work continue.
Lyon Station west entrance: Construction of the station walls and stairs progresses; activities include waterproofing, rebar and formwork installation as well as concrete pours. By the end of this week, crews resume work at the Lyon Station HVAC shaft and activities include rock removals.
Lyon Station east entrance: At the station concourse level, crews install rebar and pour concrete for the walls and columns. At the east vent shaft, crews complete reinforcements and remove rock.
Parliament Station cavern: Crews continue station concrete work; activities include rebar and formwork installation. Electrical work and waterproofing of the station arch are ongoing.
Parliament Station west entrance: Crews complete structural steel installation and finalize the construction of the escalator walls. At the east vent shaft, crews continue work during the weekend; activities include hoe ramming and rock removals.
Parliament Station east entrance: At the concourse level, crews have removed the foundation wall and continue structural steel installation. Crews begin blasting and continue rock removals at street level.
Traffic restrictions on Queen and O’Connor streets remain in effect.
Rideau Station cavern: Crews install mechanical and electrical work and continue waterproofing of the station arch and invert. Rebar installation and concrete pours are ongoing as part of station L-wall work.
Rideau Station west entrance: Work on the station roof slab continues; crews waterproof, install rebar and formwork and pour concrete.
Rideau Station east entrance: Construction of the concourse level is ongoing; crews install rebar, formwork and pour concrete for the walls.
uOttawa Station: Excavation for station footings and concrete work on station walls are ongoing. Crews install rebar and formwork in preparation for concrete pours that will occur overnight on October 14. Future overnight closures of the pedestrian tunnel are anticipated in the coming weeks.
East Portal: Excavation and installation of reinforcements on the ramp occur in preparation for future guideway work.
East Stations
Lees Station: Crews install rebar, formwork and prepare to pour the raft slab. Electrical and sewer work are ongoing.
Hurdman Station: Construction of the station advances; crews pour the concourse floor slab and install structural steel. Crews begin internal finishes, continue electrical work and install the roof at the bus operators’ building.
Tremblay Station: Crews continue pouring concrete and installing structural steel. Work on the roof metal deck and station canopy are finalized.
St-Laurent Station: Crews begin installing station escalators and elevators and continue work on the mechanical room. Preparations begin to install structural steel.
Cyrville Station: Crews continue construction of the parapets and station roof. Work begins on the station elevators. At the auxiliary building, crews begin installation of exterior wall panels and electrical work is ongoing.
Blair Station: Crews continue roof, exterior wall panel and soffit installation. Mechanical and electrical work are ongoing. Crews complete excavation and begin rebar installation for footings at the bus operators’ building. Removals occur at the permanent bus loop.
Tunnel Excavation and Support
Work continues in the running tunnel; excavation and installation of reinforcements occur.
Guideway
Tunney’s Pasture Station to West Portal: From Tunney’s Pasture to Merton Street, crews continue installing Overhead Catenary System foundations during the day and overnight. Between Merton Street and West Portal, guideway work including removals, excavation and installation of ballast are ongoing. Trackwork also continues in sections and activities include pulling rail.
Mann Avenue Bridge to west of Tremblay Station: Crews install duct banks, fencing and ballast as construction of the guideway progresses in sections. Trackwork activities including pulling rail and pouring dowels are ongoing between Rideau River Transitway Bridge and Tremblay Station.
Belfast Yard to Blair Station: Installation of systems and cabling will continue in the coming weeks in anticipation of vehicle testing later this month.
Other Activities
Bayview Bridge: Crews continue reconstruction of the bridge; activities include work on the approach slab and concrete overlay.
CPR Bridge near Bayview Station: Crews pour concrete pier caps and work on abutments. Reconstruction of the bridge will continue until the end of 2016.
Mann Avenue Bridge: With removals and demolition complete, reconstruction of the bridge begins as crews work on abutments, pier caps and install girders.

Construction of Hurdman Station, a critical transfer point on the O-Train Confederation Line, continues to progress as crews mobilize to begin installation of structural steel. Further east, construction of the permanent bus loop has gotten underway at Blair Station, a key component to allow residents to transfer from bus rapid transit to light rail when revenue service begins in 2018.
West Stations
Tunney’s Pasture Station: Station foundation work continues as crews install rebar for station footings and mobilize to begin caisson installation.
Bayview Station: Work on the ancillary building is ongoing; crews drill and pour caissons. Crews begin duct bank installation. Ground improvement activities and sewer work also occur.
Pimisi Station: The station walls and platform continue to take shape; activities include waterproofing, rebar installation and concrete pours. Crews also backfill, install duct banks and continue mechanical and electrical work.

West Portal: Preparation for future guideway work continues on the ramp.
Lyon Station cavern: Crews continue work on the station’s concourse level; activities include rebar installation, formwork and pouring concrete. Shotcrete final lining in the east transition and arch final lining pours are ongoing.
Lyon Station west entrance: The station entrance continues to take shape; crews install rebar, formwork and pour concrete for the station walls and stairs.

Parliament Station cavern: Work on station L-walls is ongoing; activities include rebar installation and concrete pours. Waterproofing of the station arch occurs.

Cyrville Station: Crews install rebar, formwork and complete concrete pours as the station concourse level and stairs take shape. Work on the parapets and the station roof is ongoing. Electrical work occurs at the auxiliary building.
Blair Station: Construction of the station continues to advance; crews work on the station roof, soffit and continue mechanical and electrical works as well as landscaping activities. Permanent bus loop construction begins.

Mining of the running tunnel is ongoing and crews install reinforcements.

Mann Avenue Bridge to Tremblay Station: Guideway construction continues in sections; crews install duct banks, fencing and ballast. Between Rideau River Transitway Bridge and Tremblay Station, crews continue trackwork activities, including ballast installation, pulling rail and welding.

In the west section of the alignment, crews continue installing the Overhead Catenary System foundations, part of the system used to power the trains In addition to this work, trackwork activities such as welding and pulling rail are ongoing between the Rideau River Transitway Bridge and just west of Tremblay Station.

Tunney’s Pasture Station: Final removals occur and station foundation work is ongoing. Crews construct the station footings and activities include rebar installation.
Bayview Station: Crews install caissons as part of work on the ancillary building. Ground improvement activities also occur. Realignment of the north-south pedestrian and cycling multi-use pathway continues and utility installations begin.
Pimisi Station: Crews install rebar and pour concrete for the station walls. Electrical and mechanical installations also occur along with preliminary work on the station’s platform.

Cyrville Station: The construction of the concourse level is ongoing and includes rebar installation and concrete pours. Crews continue work on the parapets and install framing for the station’s roof.

Mann Avenue Bridge to west of Tremblay Station: Crews continue installing duct banks and fencing as part of track work, and mobilize to begin installing ballast. Trackwork continues between Rideau River Transitway Bridge and Tremblay Station; activities include ballast installation, pulling rail and welding.
Tremblay to Blair station: Between Tremblay and Blair stations, crews continue systems and cabling installations in preparation for vehicle testing.

In the east, Cyrville Station progress is visible with crews hard at work building the station concourse and roof. On the eastern portion of the guideway, systems and cabling installation continue between Tremblay and Blair stations in preparation for vehicle testing this fall.

Work on the guideway is really starting to advance right across the alignment. This week, crews have mobilized at Tremblay Station for trackwork activities. The downtown integrated stations are also seeing real progress. Crews completed the construction of the head house at Parliament Station west entrance this week, and are now moving toward the next phase of activities, including installation of the roof slab.
West Stations
Tunney’s Pasture Station: Crews complete final demolition and removals, and mobilize to begin working on the station foundation and footings.
Bayview Station: Ground improvement activities occur and crews continue work on the ancillary building. The north-south multi-use pathway realignment begins to allow caisson installations to take place.
Pimisi Station: Crews continue foundation work including rebar and formwork installations for station walls and footings. Grading, electrical and mechanical installations also occur.

West Portal: Excavation of the ramp is finalized; crews continue to install reinforcements.
Lyon Station cavern: Crews install rebar and pour concrete for the concourse slab and columns. Arch final lining pours are ongoing.

Parliament Station east entrance: Structural steel installation and welding is finalized and crews pour the station stairs. At street level, crews line drill and remove rock in anticipation of blasting in the coming weeks.

Tremblay Station: Station construction continues to advance; crews work on parapets, canopy footings and install structural steel. Trackwork activities are ongoing.
St-Laurent Station: Crews install rebar and pour concrete for the station elevators. Masonry is finalized and work continues on the hydro room. Crews continue electrical work and begin structural steel installation on the plenum. Track work crews begin pulling rail on the westbound track this week.
Cyrville Station: The concourse level continues to progress; crews install rebar and pour concrete. Crews work on the station roof, auxiliary building and parapets. Mechanical and electrical work also occurs.
Blair Station: Crews work on the roof, soffit and install exterior wall panels. Hardscaping activities including utility, catch basin, parking, curb and sidewalk construction are ongoing.

Excavation and installation of reinforcements continue in the running tunnel.

Tunney’s Pasture Station to West Portal: Between Tunney’s Pasture Station and Merton Street, crews continue excavation, grading, and Overhead Catenary System foundation installation during the day and overnight. Crews mobilize to begin flash butt welding as part of trackwork.
Mann Avenue Bridge to west of Lees Station: Trackwork activities continue on this section of the guideway including track welding and ballast installation.
Rideau River Transitway Bridge to Blair Station: Trackwork continues between Rideau River Transitway Bridge and Tremblay Station; activities include installing ballast, pulling rail and welding. Just east of Tremblay Station to Blair Station, crews complete systems and cables installations in preparation for vehicle testing this month.
Other Activities
CPR Bridge near Bayview Station: Crews install formwork for the pier caps. Work on the bridge abutments and ground improvement activities are ongoing.
Mann Avenue Bridge: Work on the reconstruction of the bridge is ongoing and includes caisson installations and work on pier caps.

This week, eastern stations continue to take shape as crews pour concrete and install structural steel. Along the guideway, track installation continues between Tremblay and Blair stations, where the vehicle testing will take place as early as the fall. Integrated stations continue to progress with concrete works. In the west, preliminary construction is ongoing at Pimisi and Bayview stations and crews finalize works at the Tunney’s Pasture temporary bus loop.

Tunney’s Pasture Station: crews install light poles and complete electrical connections for the Tunney’s Pasture Station temporary bus loop.
Bayview Station: here you see crews drilling and pouring caissons as part of station foundation work. During lifting operations currently underway, and for the safety of all Bayview pathway users, short-term closures and realignments of the multi-use pathway will be required. Flaggers are on site to assist users.

Update on Rideau Street infrastructure failure:
Repair works are proceeding well on Rideau Street. A majority of sidewalks have re-opened, Rideau Street has been repaved, utility repair works are nearly complete, watermain replacements have been completed and the reinstatement of permanent watermain connections is well underway.
City engineers have confirmed that the intersection of Rideau Street and Sussex Drive is safe to re-open. Partial re-opening of the intersection has taken place, as some additional work is required near the roadway that will cause some traffic impacts.
Rideau Station west entrance: crews continue station excavation, material removals and install reinforcements.
Rideau Station cavern: station work continues and includes waterproofing, installing rebar and concrete pours. At the East Portal ramp, sheet piling is ongoing overnight for the next several weeks in preparation for future guideway work.

Central Stations
Update on Rideau Street infrastructure failure:
Repair crews continue working on affected services in the area of the infrastructure failure. Repairs to the sanitary and storm sewer pipes are substantively complete. The next steps will involve backfilling the site to the level of the watermain pipes and allowing crews to begin reinstating the water main.
Pumping continues to remove water from the tunnel and is being treated before being directed into the sanitary sewer system for full treatment at the City’s wastewater treatment plant.
All but only a handful of businesses in the area are up and running with full utilities.
