Rideau Street between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street is reopening to buses and taxis earlier than anticipated.
WHAT: Rideau Street between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street was initially slated to reopen to buses and taxis at the end of the year following completion of the jet grouting operation in support of tunnel excavation. The jet grouting work is now complete, and the street will reopen ahead of schedule.
WHEN: The street will reopen on Thursday, December 15th, 5:00 a.m. Cars and cyclists are still not permitted on this portion of Rideau Street until the Confederation Line opens in 2018.
WHY: Ground improvement program (jet and compaction grouting) is complete.
PEDESTRIAN & CYCLING IMPACTS
Pedestrian access will be maintained on both sides of the street, while cyclists continue to be prohibited on this portion of Rideau Street until the Confederation Line begins operation in 2018.

OC Transpo routes that had been shortened or diverted to other nearby streets will return to normal service on Rideau Street immediately following the re-opening. The special late night OC Transpo shuttle service that operated on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights to provide a connection from locations in the ByWard Market to overnight services on Mackenzie King Bridge will cease immediately following the opening.
