This week at Rideau Station, crews install the next phase of rebar for the headwall and continue the formwork for the concourse slabs, while architectural works for the south platform are underway. In the west, at Bayview, the current activities include concrete works in the east plaza. In the east, at Hurdman Station, crews will be pouring the remaining topping slabs through the beginning weeks of December.
Tunney’s Pasture Station
Current activities include waterproofing the roof deck, windscreen post installation, and mechanical and electrical work at the platform level. The masonry work on the southside of the platform is nearly complete. Crews have also nearly concluded work on the communications room. Down below, crews are installing sections of inter-track barrier and plinths for the track.
Crews are completing concrete works in the east plaza at Bayview. Inside the station, they are working on the signband conduit, the platform level ceiling rough-ins, the skylight framing, and the porcelain panels in the ancillary building. Elevator and escalator installations are ongoing.
Crews have started framing soffits at the platform level and will be performing that same work at the upper west concourse and the north canopy in coming weeks. In addition, stairway posts and the mullions for the glass walls are being completed. Other work includes installation of mechanical equipment as well as the voltage switch at the lower concourse level. Installation of porcelain panels proceeds in the lower concourse.
Concrete works ramp up this week with various floor topping pours, curb pours at the base of the west TVS and stair openings and the forming and pouring of the platform walkways. Architectural work is also progressing with work on the ceilings, dry walling and glazing.
Queen Street Streetscaping
Streetscaping works continue along the south side of Queen between Bay and Lyon streets and between Lyon and Kent streets.
Crews continue working on the stairs by stripping and removing forms, and installing hand rails at select stairways. The duct bank walls are stripped and removed of formwork and have been handed over to the electrical team. Elsewhere, rough-ins are installed, shotcrete continues and crews work on the track slab.
Parliament Station west entrance
Escalator assembly continues at the integrated entrance. Below ground, the south wall advances with rebar, concrete pours and forming the backside. Rebar continues to be installed for the stairs.
Parliament Station east entrance
Escalators are installed and beam rebar, forming, pouring and stripping occurs for the concrete structure. Upcoming work includes crews preparing to install the winter enclosure around the integrated entrance.
This week, the next phase of rebar for the headwall is installed alongside continuing formwork for the concourse slabs. Architectural works have begun for the southern platform slab. Elsewhere in the tunnel, shotcrete continues for the transition.
Rideau Station west entrance
Below ground, the arch formwork removals from the tunnel are ongoing, with about half left. Excavation continues on Rideau Street for the west TVS. Upcoming work includes slab chipping and mechanical pipe relocation.
Rideau Station east entrance
Ongoing work includes electrical work and installation of the vapour barrier, insulation and drywall for the ceilings. Excavation continues with hand chipping to connect the entrance with the station cavern. The adit progresses as well with waterproofing and rebar for the concourse slab.
Inside the tunnel, the invert progresses and is near completion with rebar installation, waterproofing and concrete pours.
The porcelain panel installation along Nicholas Street has begun. Crews will also be working on the pedestrian plaza and stairs at the entrance to the station. Other work focuses on the windscreen posts and the intumescent paint for the elevator plaza.
Crews are finishing the porcelain panel installations in the auxiliary building. Work will also begin on the foundation for the exit stairs for the MUP at the northeast side of the station. Other work focuses on installation of the interlock pavers at the main entrance to the station.
Crews will pour the topping slabs until early December. They will be working on the handrail posts and installing the landscaping foundations. The snowmelt cables as well as the mullions for the glass walls also continue to progress
Work focuses on framing for the wood ceiling at the upper concourse level, and installation of the supports for the art work. Crews are also putting in place the mullions for the exterior glazing wall.
Current activities include placement of insulated panels. Silencers for the large fans in the tunnel ventilation system are on site for installation. Platform toppings are complete. Electrical work continues.
Current scheduled works include the framing for the wood ceiling. Outside, demobilization and landscaping work takes place.
Crews will be paving the entrance to the TPSS and they continue to make progress on the bus loop, where the OC Transpo bus shelters will be installed in the coming weeks. Inside the station, wood ceiling framing will be completed soon, while testing and commissioning of mechanical equipment is ongoing.
Guideway and Trackwork
Crews prepare to install track through Parliament Station and continue working on the track tie-in to the West Portal. In the West, crews are tamping a west-bound section of track near Pimisi Station while rail installation is currently taking place at Tunney’s Pasture. Train testing is ongoing on the eastern stretch of the alignment.
Upcoming Construction Activities
In the coming weeks, the following construction activities are scheduled to occur:
- Systems installation along the guideway, including OCS poles and wires.
- Station elevators and escalators installed at multiple stations.
- Start of the concrete shaft work at Rideau Station west TVS.
- Finishing the paving work at the Hurdman bus loop.
- Completing the bus loop at Blair Station.
- Preparatory works for chipping the shotcrete beam at Parliament Station east TVS.
- Backfilling of the cut and cover section at the East Portal
